1887 GOLD DOUBLE SOVEREIGN ( UNC )
A superb 1887 Gold Double Sovereign presented in Uncirculated (UNC) condition, struck during the celebrated Golden Jubilee year of Queen Victoria’s reign. This impressive full gold coin contains two sovereigns worth of gold and remains one of the most iconic and desirable coins of the Victorian era.
The obverse features the beautiful Jubilee Head portrait of Queen Victoria wearing a small crown and veil, designed by Sir Joseph Edgar Boehm, with the surrounding legend reading VICTORIA D:G: BRITT: REG: F:D:. The reverse displays the classic St George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci, widely regarded as one of the finest designs ever used on British coinage.
This example displays outstanding detail with sharp striking throughout, strong lustre, and minimal signs of handling, fully in keeping with the UNC grade. The rich golden surfaces and historic significance make this an exceptional piece for both collectors and investors alike.
