1717 MAUNDY THREEPENCE ( GVF )

This 1717 Maundy Threepence in Good Very Fine condition exemplifies early Georgian ceremonial coinage of considerable rarity. Maundy pieces were produced in restricted quantities for the annual Royal Maundy ceremony, where the reigning monarch distributed alms to deserving subjects. This specimen, struck during the reign of George I, displays excellent detail preservation with only modest wear to the most prominent features. The obverse portrait remains well-defined, and the reverse inscription and denomination are clearly legible. The overall eye appeal is strong, with surfaces showing the patina consistent with age and careful handling. Coins from the 1710s Maundy series are increasingly difficult to locate in higher grades, as most examples have experienced greater circulation wear or deterioration. This piece represents a solid acquisition for collectors pursuing early Georgian Maundy coinage or those seeking quality examples from the first Hanoverian monarch's reign.
